According to preliminary results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), sales of retail trade in Germany in July 2009 nominal 2.3% and 1.0% in real terms lower than in July 2008. Both months were both 27 sales days. The results for July 2009 was calculated from data from seven states, in which approximately 76% of sales are made in the German retail market. Compared to the previous month, sales rose in July 2009 taking into account seasonal and calendar effects, nominal and real terms by 0.1% to 0.7%.

The retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco products began in July 2009 in nominal terms 0.9% and 0.1% in real terms by more than in July 2008. Here at the supermarkets, hypermarkets and supermarkets in nominal terms 0.9% and 0.4% in real terms was issued as the same month last year, when Retail trade with food sales were up 2.1% in nominal terms and 2.9% lower in real terms.
